🎂 This Day in History: Your Birthday

Type in your birthday and see what happened on that date across history: big events, famous people who share your birthday, holidays, and more. Add the year you were born to find out what weekday it was and how many days you have been around.

Your birth year stays on your device. Only the month and day are looked up.

What happened on my birthday in history?

Birthday in History answers the question every kid asks at least once: what else happened on my birthday? Pick a month and day and the page pulls the lists Wikipedia keeps for that date. You get historical events, famous people born that day, notable deaths, and the holidays and observances tied to it. Wikipedia’s editors also flag a handful of standout events for each date, and those show up first.

How to use it

Choose your birth month and day, then press Show my day in history. Add your birth year if you want the personal part: the weekday you were born, your age in years and in days, how long until your next birthday and what day of the week it lands on, any events Wikipedia lists from your birth year, and famous people born the same day and year as you. The Since you were born filter narrows the lists to your own lifetime. The search box and era filter work on every list, and the share button copies a link to the date, never the year.

Where the data comes from

Every entry comes from the Wikimedia “On this day” feed, the same lists behind the English Wikipedia date pages. The text is licensed CC BY-SA 4.0, and each entry links to its Wikipedia article so you can read more. Our server keeps a copy of each date for up to a week so lookups stay quick. Very old dates generally follow the calendar in use at the time. Entries that link to Georgia or a Georgia town get a peach badge, but local South Georgia history rarely makes these worldwide lists.

Your privacy

Your birth year never leaves your browser. The page asks our server only for the month and day. The age math runs on your device, and nothing you type is saved.

Common questions

Why is a famous event missing from my date?
Wikipedia’s date lists are chosen by volunteer editors. They are highlights, not a record of everything that happened. The full date page on Wikipedia, linked under the results, sometimes carries more.

What if I was born on February 29?
Leap-day birthdays work. The app counts down to your next real February 29 and notes the years in between.
